The last week has been a wonderful whirlwind adventure of travel, exploration and of course performance. After our show in Prague we went off to Berlin to scope out the town during a short gap in our performance itinerary. We saw a few great improvisation shows while there. Perhaps the most heartening aspect of these were the large, excited and hip crowds that seem to regularly attend this sort of thing. This is proof that improvisation need not be on the fringe! Our time in Berlin also included many €1.50 döners, lovely city sights, new friends, art galleries, some interesting musical and dance contacts, introduction to a new trend in electronic dance music called Electro-swing and a few late late nights.
On the 9th we rented the cars that will be taking us through Croatia and Austria and Slovakia for the next several days. Our first trip was to München. We arrived in town after getting a little lost on the outskirts, but were greeted by our host Tonny who offered his apartment to us for the duration of our stay. This space has definitely been quite cozy for the seven of us at 200sq ft, but we've made the most of is and are happy to have all the we need here.
On Sunday we had a double performance. In the afternoon we played the Munich StreetLife Festival which, as its name suggests, is a giant street celebration. We had a little stage just big enough for the musicians, so we extended into the street. Although the crowd was fairly transient, it was by far the largest so far. After this we went off to rehearse with a movement improvisation group in town called Society of the Unforseen. This experience was truly wonderful; we felt like we found our people finally! We were thrilled to be invited to perform with them this wednesday at another open air festival.
Since sunday's shows, we have been relaxing, meeting up with our hosts here, taking dance classes, practicing our instruments and seeing a little of Munich. Very soon we're off to a lake a little out of town for a swim and to visit a monestary that brews its own beer. Then a rehearsal tonight... and before we know it, we'll be off again to the Croatia, Austria Slovakia leg of our tour.
